Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

For performing an PRP injection first blood will be taken from the patient.

The platelets will be separated from other blood cells and their concentration is increased by activating and centrifugation. Blood contains liquid (called plasma) and solid components: red and white cells and platelets.
The platelets contain many proteins. They are known as growth factors and important for healing processes. The PRP after activating and centrifugation is enriched by platelets. After 10 minutes the PRP will be ready for injection. One appointment per week is sufficient.
The PRP will be injected by small needles into the traumatized or degenerative place or joint.

The PRP procedure is effective for the following indications:

  • Partial rupture of rotator cuff
  • biceps tendinitis
  • chronic overload of shoulder ligaments
  • Osteoarthritis and injury of AC (acromioclavicular) joint
  • Painful insertions of tendons andmuscles (f.e. musculus levator scapulae)
  • Osteoarthritis shoulder joint

  • Injury of collateral ligaments
  • Partial rupture of distal biceps tendon
  • Epicondylitis: golfers- and tenniselbow
  • Arthritis of elbow joint

  • Muscle injuries: f.e.Quadriceps
  • Bursa inflammation
  • Osteoarthritis knee
  • Tendon overuse
  • Osteonecrosis: OD,Morbus Ahlbäck

Hip and Pelvis:

  • Piriformis-Syndrome
  • Trochanteric bursitis
  • Sacroiliac dysfunction
  • Hamstring injury
  • Ischial tuberosity tendopathy
  • Osteoarthritis hip joint
  • Avascular hip necrosis

  • Osteoarthritis wrist joint
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis hand and finger joints
  • Strain of thumb with injury of ligaments (ski er’s thumb)
  • Duruytren’s contracture

Foot and Ankle:

  • Ankle sprain
  • Chronic ligament lesions
  • Chronic Achilles tendon pain – Achollodynia
  • Chronic partial rupture of ligaments
  • Morbus Ledderhose
  • Avascular necrosis talus

The pain relief and the effect of autologous growth factors and plasma proteins for regeneration and healing processes are widely acknowledged by scientific publications.
The most important origin for growth factors are our thombocytes = platelets. They have given name for this innovative therapy: platelet rich plasma!
In case of injuries and inflammations the thrombocytes and linked proteins are activated to support and accelerate the healing process. The sterile activating set and centrifugation allows to multiply the number of these worthful blood components.

Advantages of PRP therapy:

  • Effectiveness of natural available substances
  • Good compatibility
  • Possible at any regular office appointment
  • Broad spectrum of indications
  • High therapeutic value
